The central idea
The Two Knights Defense meets the Italian bishop with immediate development and pressure on e4. The position becomes tactical quickly, so both sides need a plan for the central break rather than a collection of traps.
Typical plans
- Develop with tempo and contest the center.
- Calculate the consequences of an early d4 or Ng5.
- Castle before turning tactical pressure into an all-in attack.
Common mistakes
- Memorizing a trap without checking the opponent's safer replies.
- Leaving the king in the center after the position opens.
- Moving a developed piece again instead of completing development.
